Yesterday marked the official launch of Fanroll’s Catan Masterpiece Series Kickstarter, and Fanroll is thrilled to introduce these upgrades to the board game community.
Fanroll worked with the Catan team to reimagine each element of the classic game and create a line of premium upgrades. The CATAN Masterpiece Series started with just two words: What If?
We asked ourselves, what if we took the classic game and upgraded each element with metal, gemstones, sparkles, and more? What if we made a game that would be kept and played for decades?
Catan has obviously been a staple in tabletop gaming. Since 1995, it has united friends and families through competitive resource trading, strategizing, and unexpected alliances. We know how much people love the game, which is why we wanted to take things to the next level and create something special. So, what makes the Catan Masterpiece Series so unique? Let’s dive into some of the individual elements.
Starting with the outside of the board, we wanted to make something both sturdy and beautiful.
Sparkle Resin Frames: We included these gorgeous blue sparkle resin frames because we know the right aesthetic can make all the difference, and we wanted to bring the sea to life! The frames are made with a resin material that catches the light and brings a little extra sparkle to the game. For those who like a classic look, we also made solid wood frames.
Hand-Painted Hexes and Number Discs: Once the frames are made, we populate the game with hex tiles. Our solid wood hexes are carefully painted to match the color scheme of Catan while maintaining the quality and craftsmanship you would expect from a premium product. The number discs are specially crafted to fit into the hexes with ease and fit into a hex-shaped space in each hex. We also made sparkle resin and gemstone hexes to offer a wide variety of board flavors.
Harbors and Ancient Civilizations: The ports have been reimagined as 3D ships, adding depth to your gameplay. We’ve also included ancient civilization sets of metal and plastic that bring fresh, exciting new pieces to the gameplay, such as the Egyptians, Aztecs, Greeks, and more.
In addition to the gemstone robbers, sparkle resin frames, hand-painted hexes, and number discs, the Catan Masterpiece Series also includes metal player pieces that bring a solid, premium weight to your cities, settlements, and roads. You’ll also find metal and plastic ancient civilization sets to replace the classic pieces, offering a fresh way to play with new civilizations like the Egyptians, Aztecs, and Greeks.
The ports have been reimagined as 3D ships to add even more depth to your gameplay, and the entire set is completed with exclusive enamel pins and premium packaging designed to store and protect your masterpiece collection.
The collection features 50 unique pieces made from premium materials like wood, metal, resin, and gemstone to enhance your board game nights. This project is our tribute to the classic game that introduced all to the world of board games.
